The 125LIVE exhibition space will be open late on the 13th, 14th & 15th October to host a range of FREE guest lectures from creative leaders and innovators. These are informal events with free refreshments and 3 guest speakers each night, the line-up is being revealed gradually as we near the opening night so check back frequently to see who's speaking or click here to receive the latest news as soon as we have it.

How to Publish Your Book
We are very pleased to kick off our Creative Talks series with an insight into the process behind converting a ‘great idea’ into a great book, something which most artists aspire to, but few pull off and there can be few people better placed to explain the process than than Taschen's Julius Wiedemann. As both the Executive Editor for Design and Pop Culture, and Director for Digital Publications at the legendary Publishing House, Julius has edited over 50 books which have sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide. He knows how to make and sell art books and will share his wisdom with you.

DOUGIE WALLIS

Dougie Wallace, the London based, Scottish born 'Glasweegee' street photographer is infamous for his long-term social documentary projects and direct visual style which has been published in critically acclaimed books such as Stags, Hens and Bunnies (Dewi Lewis) and Shoreditch Wild Life (Hoxton Mini Press). For his 125LIVE talk he'll be discussing (amongst many other subjects) the recent Harrodsburg project and his nomination for the 2015 European book publisher’s award for Road Wallah (Dewi Lewis).

With photography as a building block they use CG software to create unbuilt environments as both the focal point and background to images which exist only in the imaginations of the architects and artists who work with them around the world. At 125LIVE they will discuss some of the processes involved in computer generated image creation and the emerging technologies that will eventually enable their audiences to inhabit their world in parallel with them.

MAKING MOVIES WITH RED
Camera Manufacturer
Paul Waterworth of Red, will explain how the cameras used on The Hobbit, House of Cards and many more films are helping photographers transition from still to moving image with relative ease. He'll share a selection of films by traditional stills photographers and reveal the process that allows the extraction of high-res still images from video frames, something which is predicted to revolutionise photography in coming years.

PETER DENCH
Photographer
Peter Dench is a photographer, writer, curator and TV presenter who is regularly on assignment around the world and has published numerous projects which include England Uncensored, a Pictures of the Year International (POYi) Best Photography Book finalist in 2012 and the acclaimed A&E: Alcohol & England. He was also placed 2nd in the Advertising category of the 2010 Sony World Photography Awards and received a World Press Photo Award in the People in the News Stories category. 
At 125LIVE he will talk about his imminent new book and accompanying exhibition - DENCH DOES DALLAS: 'A saturated slap about the senses, a sideways glance at a fully loaded, iconic American city'.

MORITZ WALDERMEYER
Artist & Lighting Designer
Moritz Waldemeyer is an internationally renowned designer based in London, whose work has been exhibited around the world, including MoMA’s permanent collection. His lighting installations occupy a diverse range of creative spaces, from art and product design through to fashion and entertainment. At 125LIVE he'll talk through his early work which included collaborations with Hussein Chalayan and Zaha Hadid and more recently with Audi, Bombay Sapphire, Microsoft and Philip Treacy, as well as light-studded costumes for the likes of U2 and Rihanna.

MARTIN YATES

As a creative director with 15 years experience working in music, advertising and editorial image creation, Martin Yates will share his ideas and creative process, talking through the development of concepts from sketchbook to the final shoot. He'll also discuss the methods that enable him to successfully communicate his ideas to the photographers who shoot them and his role as a creative director on set. 

JULIA FULLERTON-BATTEN
Photographer
Julia Fullerton-Batten is a multi award winning fine-art and advertising photographer who is famed for her narrative approach, unusual locations, cinematic lighting and street casting which she combines to create highly stylised, figurative imagery. She is a Hasselblad master and has previously spoken about her work in America, Sweden and Norway and has been exhibited all over the world.  At 125LIVE she will discuss her art and approach to image creation.

Motion & Stills Capture with RED 6K Dragon

A specially devised masterclass designed to offer photographers a fast track to confidence in moving image creation and still frame extraction using the industry leading RED Dragon 6K camera. 

This one day intensive moving image masterclass is aimed at professional photographers who want a intensive course with the highest quality equipment for motion capture. The team at RED cameras will give you step by step instruction on setting up and shooting with their state of the art equipment so that you can confidently shoot motion and extract print quality 19MP still files from motion footage.

You will be given a detailed demonstration of their latest kit before lighting and shooting both still and moving subjects in a range of continuous lighting setups. 

You will leave this class with a solid understanding of all the key techniques and equipment involved in shooting moving images so that you can undertake your next project with maximum confidence.

The masterclass runs from 10am to 6pm at Shoreditch Studios with lunch and refreshments included. 

Class size is limited to 10 people to provide each participant with as much time as possible to experiment with the equipment.

Don't know an ISO from an F-Stop, or just want to brush up on your skills? Then our unique photographic safaris are just what you need.

WHAT HAPPENS ON SAFARI?
As you explore and photograph the urban jungle of East London, our safari guide will demystify the photographic process, explaining the jargon and techniques that are the key to capturing great images. For the beginner it's a great way to learn the basics with the help of a professional photographer, if you already have a basic understanding you can use the day to shoot freely with a professional on hand to answer questions and offer suggestions.

  • No prior photographic knowledge needed
  • Bring any digital camera as long as it has the ability to shoot in manual mode, or borrow one of our OLYMPUS cameras for free.

Our guide will explain and demonstrate the basics of:

  • The camera’s key functions and modes
  • Camera quality settings
  • An overview of the key photographic principles inc. aperture, shutter speed & ISO
  • The secrets of composition
  • Capturing mood and atmosphere

Safaris leave from the 125LIVE venue at 10AM
Duration: Approximately 3 Hours, ending with refreshments and a group Q&A where we will discuss your experience and answer any final camera questions.

STUDIO LIGHTING WORKSHOP

This one day crash-course in studio lighting is for photographers of any level or background who wish to gain an understanding of studio lighting techniques. 

The day will be overseen by Perry Curties, a commercial photographer with over 15 years experience shooting in studio's around the world. He will demonstrate key lighting techniques and his studio workflow before letting you loose with a range of equipment supplied by our friends at 123 Lighting, including Profoto flash systems with a range of light control attachments.

You will be able to shoot individually and in small teams on two sets with professional help on hand: 
Set 1: Product/still life
Set 2: Portrait/fashion

This workshop runs from 10am to 6pm at Shoreditch Studios with lunch and refreshments included. The class size is strictly limited to allow you the maximum amount of time to shoot and plenty of opportunity to experiment with the equipment, bring your own camera or use one of our Olympus OMD kits.
